T & K Futures and Options Believes that Silver Futures Prices Will Hit New Highs

Port St. Lucie, Fl (PRWEB) August 25, 2010

Silver is used in numerous electronic devices like cell phones, plasma televisions, computers and electronic relays. It is also used in medicines like silver sulfadiazine which is used to stop infections. This demand for silver as an industrial metal as well as the demand by precious metals investors searching for a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty may push silver futures prices to new highs.

Silver is considered both an industrial metal and a precious metal by many. The demand for silver is robust and its supply is limited. Unlike gold, silver is for the most part not considered recyclable because it is used in such small quantities that it does not make sense to try and recover and reuse it. For instance, a cell phone user is not likely to break apart a non-working cell phone to recover 10 cents worth of silver used in its manufacturing. The phone is discarded. Approximately 45% of the silver mined is used for industrial purposes and its production is usually a byproduct of gold mining. The recent economic turmoil around the world has driven many investors to the precious metals. The recent advent of silver ETFs has increased the demand for physical silver greatly. ETF companies are required to offset their customers’ purchases with physical silver or corresponding futures contracts which may pressure silver futures prices higher. The recent move by the United States Federal Reserve Bank to use interest on its mortgage loans to buy treasuries opens the door for a lot more quantitative easing (i.e. printing more U.S. Dollars) which will probably lead to inflation soon. Historically precious metals have been a good place for investors to put money during times of inflation.
